Your Wedding Cake

So first off, congratulations on your engagement!

You have probably realized by now that planning a wedding is a huge effort. And if you're like most people, you have never purchased a cake that costs more than $40, or had to think about designs, flavors, or colors for a cake.

Did you know that wedding guests remember the wedding cake almost as much as they do the wedding itself? We deal with a lot of brides and grooms, and we've made wedding cakes of all shapes and sizes and flavors and designs. All our wedding cakes are created with individual care.

For your wedding, we recommend our signature dessert, raspberry crème. Or, you may wish to choose one of our other desserts, such as Carrot Cake, Chocolate Layer Ganache Cake, or Strawberry Cake. Our cakes are iced and decorated in buttercream. This is a true buttercream, and is ivory in color.

Booking the Date…..
To ensure your cake is on the books, a non refundable $50.00 deposit is required to reserve your wedding date. This amount is applied to the balance of your wedding cake. Reserving your date as soon as you know you’d like us to create a cake for you is highly recommended. Orders are always subject to date availability.

The consultation….
All consultations are by appointment only. If you want to do a cake-tasting during your consultation, there is an additional fee of $50. Having a consultation does not obligate you to Jennifer’s Desserts.

A representative will meet with you to discuss design options, flavors, budget and any other details needed of your event. Please be sure to have any photos, color swatches, and reception location information with you during this visit. By the end of this visit we should have a preliminary design. We must limit the guests for this meeting to a maximum of 3.

Pricing….
Our base cake pricing starts at $4.50 per serving with a minimum of 100 servings. This includes basic cake and buttercream icing. If your order is placed within one week of the event, a $75 rush fee may apply. There is also a delivery fee for deliveries outside of the Cumberland area.

Determining a price list is complicated. The number of servings, complexity of the design and materials used are all factors in pricing. Since we are custom cake designers, there simply is no set price list.

Cakes are priced by the serving (4”x2”x1). The top tier is not used in the calculation of servings. Each tier can be a different flavor. Most decorating styles are included in our base price. There is an extra charge for fondant, special carving or shapes, roses in buttercream or royal icing, or set-ups using a cake fountain. As part of our service to our brides, we provide cutting instructions and a box to take home the top layer, anniversary cake.

All details of the cake order (number of servings, flavor, design, delivery time, etc.) must be made no later then two weeks before the wedding. The balance of the amount owing on the cake is due 15 days before the wedding. At that time an equipment deposit is also due (equivalent to the replacement cost of the equipment in the cake—plates and columns, etc). The equipment deposit for most cake set-ups is usually about $25 - $50. We ask to have the equipment back by the Wednesday after the wedding. If you will be leaving on a honeymoon immediately, you will need to delegate the responsibility of having them returned by someone else. Providing the equipment is returned back when due and in the same condition it was loaned, the deposit will be refunded. The only item that is non-refundable is the large cake base. The rental fee for this is $25.

And now the budget...
And finally you have to make a decision about the cost. At Jennifer’s Desserts, we want to bake the best cake for your budget, not ours. So how do you save money on a wedding cake?

  • Cake decor like fondant, marzipan, and gum paste are expensive, and they're not very good to eat anyway. Covering your cake in our buttercream is not only the most delicious option, there's also no extra fee!
  • Order your cake in one uniform flavor, instead of several different flavors.
  • Add sheet cakes for additional servings.

Sheet cakes save money and you can put them in the back and out of sight and no-one is the wiser. At Jennifer’s Desserts, we promise that your wedding cake will be fresh, beautiful, unique, and delicious.
